What are Transitions® lenses?
Transitions® is the familiar brand name most of us use to refer to photochromic lenses. They are light-intelligent lenses that automatically adapt to the changing surrounding light. They darken when the sun is out and clear up when you’re indoors or when the sky is overcast.
How do photochromic lenses work?
For Transitions® lenses to work as intended, a photochromic treatment must be applied to regular lenses, with or without prescription. This treatment is composed of lots and lots of photochromic molecules that continually react and adapt to UV rays.
Do photochromic lenses block blue light?
They do! Although it is emitted with less intensity, blue light is on the same spectrum as UV rays. Photochromic lenses are therefore able to react to it in a similar way, making sure that that an optimized amount of light reaches your eyes, which reduces glare, eye fatigue and strain.
Are photochromic lenses as efficient as regular sunglasses?
Photochromic lenses are a perfectly safe alternative to traditional tinted lenses, as they provide both 100% UVA and UVB protection.
Do photochromic lenses work inside a car?
They don’t! Photochromic lenses darken in the presence of UV light, but car windshields are already designed to efficiently block UV rays.
Are photochromic lenses available in different colours?
Photochromic lenses do not only offer functionality and protection but also allow for playful fashions. They come in various new vibrant tints that can be mixed and matched with our frames’ colourways and are even available as mirrored lenses.
Do photochromic lenses ever completely clear up?
Many people think that photochromic lenses don’t get dark enough, or that they don’t fade to clear fast enough. That might have been true 20 years ago, but the technology behind photochromic lenses has made incredible advancements since. Find out for yourself, something tells us you won’t regret it!
